The BayBatt is a nationwide unparalleled project. With its interdisciplinary research and training BayBatt seeks to make an important contribution to efficient energy conversion and storage – key technologies of the energy and transport turnaround.
Competence Center for Digital Crafts and Trades
Broadening the definition of digitalization – Large scale enterprises or small craft businesses, digitalization is a deciding factor for future economic success regardless of the firm size. The Competence Center with its emphasis on manufacturing, fabrication and automation technology offers its assistance to all small handicraft businesses located in Bavaria when it comes to strengthening their competitiveness and the development of new business areas in the context of digitalization.
Medical Campus
Ensuring the highest level of medical in-patient and out-patient care outside of metropolitan areas is the main goal of the new degree program with clinical education at the Medical Campus Upper Franconia in cooperation with the Campus Hospital Bayreuth.

Material solutions for plastics, metals and material combinations are the core competencies of the NMB research facility. The focus is on aspects of sustainability, digitalization and energy.
Fraunhofer-Center for High Temperature Materials and Design (HTL)
Efficient solutions during high-temperature processes – from high-temperature materials, high-temperature components to high-temperature measuring methods – are HTL’s areas of expertise. At the throughout-Europe unprecedented Fiber Pilot Plant in Bayreuth researchers aim to optimize the energy efficiency and material sustainability of high-temperature processes.
Fraunhofer-Project Group Business & Information Systems Engineering (FIT)
In a unique way the FIT combines research, practical experiences and academics when it comes to the field of digitalization. The FIT has proven expertise in the areas of Computer-aided Financial Management, Customer Relationship Management, Energy und Critical Infrastructures, Innovation Management, Digital Life, IT and Data Security, Strategic IT-Management und Value-based Business Process Management. With a customer-focused and solution-oriented way of working the FIT employs its methodological know-how at the highest scientific level onto applied research projects.
Fraunhofer-Projektgruppe Prozessinnovation (IPA)
About 50 engineers and researchers at the IPA worked tirelessly in the last five years to set 150 clients up for success. Individually customized regenerative production – the IPA offers groundbreaking services in the fields of sustainable product engineering, increase of energy efficiency and replacement parts production.
