At Gedikom GmbH, a modern medical service provider for communication services in the health sector, the Rostock native started her path to success as a working student, stayed with the company after her Master’s degree and became an authorised signatory at the age of only 26.
At the University of Bayreuth, I was the centre of attention as a student and not just a matriculation number.
The professors were always available on the central campus. Freedom of thought, diversity, independence, internationality and fun are all important here.
Even during my school years, I was interested in the supposedly contrasting topics of economics, ethics and medicine. After graduating from high school, Cologne and Bayreuth were interesting as the first large university study locations for health economists. The decisive factors for my decision to study at the University of Bayreuth were the diverse and interdisciplinary education, the familiar campus and the personal “assessment interview” with Prof. Ulrich at the beginning of my studies.
My studies in Bayreuth were very diverse. The broad education in health economics (economics, business administration, medicine, law) ran across subject and faculty boundaries. I was able to try out a lot of things and choose my own seminar, Bachelor’s or Master’s topics. My scholarship at Massey University New Zealand and my stay during the summer university in Qingdao, China, allowed me to look beyond my own nose. A lot of variety awaited off campus as well. I had a lot of fun at the Father Christmas party, Elektro im Glashaus or health economist parties with a doctoral coat.

It was easy for me to start my career. I was one of the first working students at Gedikom. After completing my Master’s degree, I was taken on by Gedikom and now, at only 26 years old, I have been promoted to authorised signatory. The healthcare industry is a growth market, so no two days in my working life are the same. In addition, professional and personal development are guaranteed here.
Short distances and many leisure opportunities
For me, Bayreuth is the ideal place to live and work. On the one hand, there is the good infrastructure. I only need 10 minutes by bike to get to work, which gives me more free time and keeps me fit. The nearest children’s playground, the Röhrensee zoo, the Wilhelminenaue and the Hofgarten are only a few minutes away. I have nature practically on my doorstep.
On the other hand, there is a huge cultural diversity here. Bayreuth is more than just the Festspielhaus. Glass house, living room concerts, young artists’ festival, short film festival kontrast, the Iwalewahaus, the many museums, poetry slam or the Genussregion, everyone can find something suitable here.
Above all, I appreciate the good standard of living. Thanks to the moderate housing market, you simply have more left over from your net income than in an expensive big city. The work-life balance also convinces me.

Bayreuth has career potential
For me, Bayreuth has career potential for several reasons: There is the proximity to science through the university, e.g. through Summer e.V. or through Junior Beratung Bayreuth e.V..
Networking was made easy for me through the culture of associations, honorary and full-time positions. But the Economic Development Agency, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the “Family and Career” network, the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Bayreuth-Eremitage are also good places to go.
Bayreuth also offers security and employer flexibility with development potential thanks to its solid medium-sized businesses and hidden champions. Here I can contribute to the successes myself and not just watch.
Career potential is also offered by the “start-up” mentality in Upper Franconian, for example through the establishment of the regional innovation and start-up centre, the Start-Up Point, to develop Bayreuth as a start-up location.
A career with a family is also possible here. The good work-life balance and full provision for children gives me more security and freedom.
